• You’re waiting to find out your baby’s gender.

There was a time when all bed sheets were white cotton. But now sheets are available in different colors, styles, patterns and textures. Many retailers customize the sheets to suit individual tastes. Before buying bed sheets the size of the bed that needs new sheets has to be determined. Sheets are available in twin, full (or double), queen, king and California king sizes. It is a good idea to measure the length and width of the bed to ensure that the bed sheets fit correctly.

The bottom sheet is called the fitted sheet. There are three kinds of fitted bed sheets. The first kind has an elastic edge all the way around for easy fitting over the sides and corners of the mattress. These are the most expensive types of fitted sheets. The second kind has elastic along the sides, and the third kind has elastic only at the corners. The first kind is the most expensive and fits best. The third kind is the least expensive and the most difficult to fit over a mattress. Egyptian_cotton_bed_sheet_sets

Most sheet sets consist of a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and some pillow cases. The fitted sheet wraps around the mattress and the flat sheet stretches over the mattress. Fitted sheets are approximately of the following dimensions:
Twin bed: 39 inches by 76 inches (80 inches for extra long twin).
Full bed: 54 inches by 75 inches.
Queen size: 60 inches by 80 inches.
King size: 78 inches by 80 inches.
California King: 72 inches by 84 inches.
The most important things that should be considered when buying sheets are fabric, thread count and the type of weave.

Fabric
Egyptian cotton is the best fabric for sheets. Grown exclusively in the Nile River Valley, it is one of the world’s strongest and helpful cotton. The combination of Egyptian cotton fabric and a high thread count results in the most luxurious sheets.
